FAMILY STORY - MAKING SAUSAGE

Mary Lou said she can remember watching Dan and Grandpa Hopp mixing the sausage in wash tubs in a special room in the basement of their house in Odessa. She also remembered that they judged the amount of pepper by the number of specks of pepper on the backs of their hands. Grandma would build a fire in the old cook stove and fry patties to sample and taste. That was when Mary Lou said she helped, too.

Cathy Lobe said Edwin and Ruth Lobe made their own German sausage, and Ruth would can it in pint jars. She was still doing that in the 1960's as we were fortunate enough to get some after we were married in 1967.
