Pie Filling


Ingredients:

1 c. chopped pecans
½ c. firmly packed brown sugar
⅓ c. butter, melted
6 c. (about 6 medium) gala apples, peeled and sliced
¼ c. sugar
2 T. + 1 tsp flour
½ tsp. cinnamon
⅛ tsp. nutmeg
1 pkg. pre-made pie crust (or make your own)

Directions:

1. Heat oven to 375º
2. In a 9-inch deep dish pie pan, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and pecans. Spread evenly over bottom of the pan.
3. Place crust over pecan mixture.
4. In a large bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix lightly. Spoon mixture into the crust lined pan.
5. Top with the second crust and tuck the top crust into the bottom crust and flute. Cut several slits to vent.
6. Place pie pan on a cookie sheet during baking in-case of spillage. Bake 40-50 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender.
7. Cool pie upright in the pan for 5 minutes. Place the serving plate on top of the pie pan and invert. Carefully remove the pan.
8. Some nuts may stay in the pan, use knife to get them out of the pie pan and place them on the pie. Cool at least 1 hour before serving.

2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
⅔ c. crisco shortening
5 to 7 T. ice water

Directions:
Directions:
1. Sift flour and salt together. Cut shortening in using a pastry blender.
2. Sprinkle 1 T. of ice water over the mixture. Repeat with more water until all is moistened.
3. Form dough into a ball and roll into 2 crusts.
