1 cup carrots, grated
1 cup apple, grated
1 cup potatoes, raw & grated
1 cup currants
1 cup raisins
1 cup suet or ½ cup shortening, melted
¾ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda (dissolve in potato)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup brown sugar
½ tsp. allspice
½ tsp. cloves
1½ cups flour
dates (optional)
mixed fruit (optional)
cherries (optional)
nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Add in order given. If you have no suet, use melted shortening and omit the salt and add last. Steam for 3 hours. If putting in sealers, fill only ½ to ¾ full otherwise they may blow up. Makes 2 to 3 jars and keeps for a long time.
