2 c warm potato water
3 t salt
1 c sugar
1 c molasses
1½ T black pepper (no less)
1 c shortening
8 c flour
3 pkgs yeast
½ c warm water

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening and set aside until cool. Measure salt and sugar. Place in a large mixing bowl. Pour the warm potato water into the bowl and stir to dissolve sugar and salt. Put yeast into bowl. Add warm water. Let yeast soften for 5 minutes. Add the yeast, molasses and pepper to the water mixture. Add 3 cups flour and beat until smooth. Add the melted and cooled shortening; beat a few more strokes. Gradually add the remaining flour. Knead until smooth and satiny. Lightly grease the large mixing bowl and place dough in bowl. Let rise to double in bulk. Punch down and let rise again. Shape dough into balls and place in greased pan. Press flat and round. Let rise until double. Bake 20 minutes at 375 degrees.
