2c sugar
1c shortening
1c buttermilk
4 eggs separated
2-1/2c cake flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 pkg German sweet chocolate
1 tsp soda
Pinch of salt

FILLING
1 large can carnation
1/2c pecans
1c sugar
1 stick butter
1-1/2c angel flake coconut
3 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla

CAKE
Preheat oven 375. Dissolve chocolate in 1/2c boiling water. Beat egg whites until stiff. Cream shortening & sugar, add beaten egg yolks. Add 3/4c buttermilk alternately with flour. Dissolve soda in remaining buttermilk, add pinch of salt to chocolate/water, add to flour mix. Add vanilla, then fold in egg whites. Divide into three 9- inch cake pans, bake 375, 35-40 minutes. Cool.

FILLING
mix in med saucepan, cook on med heat until thick & holds shape. Cool.
