Two packages yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
Two eggs, well beaten
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
6 1/2 cups flour
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup boiling water
sugar or powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix yeast in warm water. Cream shortening, sugar and salt. Add vanilla, 1 cup boiling water and one cup evaporated milk. Add beaten eggs and yeast mixture. Mix well. Add 3 1/2 cups flour, a little at a time, beating with a mixer. With a spoon add three more cups flour or until dough is ready to knead. Knead for five minutes. Put dough in a greased container with lid. Refrigerate overnight or three hours. Heat 2 inches of oil in a pan. Roll out 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 2 inch squares. Deep fry it oil. Turn over and brown on other side. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or a thin gray glaze of powdered sugar and milk, or sugar or cinnamon and sugar.

Oil heated on top of our range to 365 degrees with burner set at 5.5. Fry 1 minute on each side.
