3 c sugar
1 c butter
3 c flour
5 eggs
1/3 tsp baking soda
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
juice of one lemon

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg whites until stiff and refrigerate. Cream butter, add sugar, and egg yolks. warm 1/2 buttermilk and add soda. Alternate milk, flour, vanilla, and lemon. Add egg whites last. Pour in greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
