3 T butter
¾ c milk
Vanilla
1 c walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Combine all ingredients except walnuts in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil until it forms a soft ball when put in water. Remove from stove and cool pan in a pan of water until almost cold. Then beat and knead until you can form chocolate into a log like roll. (This takes 10 plus minutes.) Scatter the chopped walnuts onto a wax paper laid on a hard surface. Roll the fudge roll over the walnuts until all walnuts are transferred to the roll. Wrap the roll in wax paper and store in a cool place. Cut slices and serve.

FAMILY STORY - CHOCOLATE FUDGE ROLL

This was a family favorite. I found the original recipe in a 1937 Skagit County cookbook Mom bought when they lived in East Stanwood just before moving to California in 1937. I have nieces who continue to make Chocolate Fudge Rolls today. This was another of Glenn’s favorites. Beating and kneading the fudge can get tiring so in our kitchen this is a husband-wife project.
