DOUGH:
1 c. flour
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
½ c. milk
APPLE MIXTURE:
4 apples
4 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. butter
TOPPING:
4 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. butter
SAUCE:
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. flour
¼ tsp. salt
1 c. hot water

Directions:
Directions:
For dough, sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening. Add milk to make a soft dough. Roll out on floured board and cover with apple mixture. For apple mixture, pare, core and chop apples into fine pieces. Sprinkle with topping. For topping, mix and spread on apple mixture. Roll like a jelly roll and cut in slices 1" thick. Place upside down in buttered baking dish and cover with sauce. For sauce, bring all to a boil and pour over dumplings. Bake in 375º oven for 35-40 minutes. Serve with cream. Double the recipe to make a 9 X 13" pan.
