4 cups Dates, chopped
2 cups Pecans, chopped
2 cups Boiling water
4 cups Flour, sifted
1 tsp Salt
1/2 cup Butter or Margarine
1 1/2 cups Brown sugar, firmly packed
2 Eggs
2 tsp Baking Soda
2/3 cup Cold Water

Directions:
Directions:
Place dates and nuts in a bowl, pour boiling water over them and let stand. Sift together flour and salt. Work butter until soft, add sugar gradually until mixture is creamy. Add unbeaten eggs, beat until fluffy. Add baking soda to the date mixture, stir flour and date mixture alternately. Add cold water gradually to batter and continue to stir until well mixed. Pour batter into greased and floured 9x5x3 pans. Bake in preheated 350º oven for 50-55 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean.
