"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Directions:
Put all ingredients in a large stock pot and bring to a boil. Place a cover on the pot, reduce heat to medium low and continue cooking until the beans are tender, approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Canned beans and peas can be used instead of dried. The substitute for the dried item is one 15.5 ounce can.

This was Grandma Margie's favorite soup at the Country Kitchen.
