1/2 cup soft shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 3/4 Cup cold water
12oz jar dark molasses
6 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon salt

Directions:
In a large bowl, cream shortening, molasses and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in water. Sift flour. Blend all dry ingredients, sift into flour. Chill. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out dough 1/2 in thick. Cut out gingerbread men shapes. Place 1 inch apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake about 15 minutes or until crisp. Decorate when cool.
