1 c. shortening (I use 1/2 Crisco & 1/2 butter)
1 ½ c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ c. un-sifted flour (I add an extra 1/4 cup per batch)
1 tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt
1 c .(6 oz. package) chocolate chips
2 c. quick-cooking oats

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350ºF
Stir brown sugar and butter until blended.
Stir in vanilla and egg until light and fluffy.
Stir in oats, flour, baking soda, and salt.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop by tablespoon on to ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.
Bake in moderate oven 350 for 10 to 12 minutes
