1¾ c. sugar
2½ c. flour
¾ c. Crisco
2 eggs
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Mix sugar, flour and Crisco together to make crumbs. Set aside ½ - ¾ cup for top of cake. Add eggs, salt, baking soda, cream of tartar and buttermilk. Beat for 1 minute. Pour into greased and floured 13x9x2-inch pan or two 9-inch round pans. Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Do not overbake or cake will be dry.
