1 cup powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup shortening - 1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 butter 1 beaten egg
2 1/2 cup flour 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon soda (scant) 1/2 teaspoon salt

Sift 2 1/2 Cups flour, 1/2 tsp cream of tartar, 1/2 tsp soda, and 1/2 tsp salt together. Mix in 1 tsp vanilla,
1 cup shortening -1/2 butter, 1 tsp almond extract, and 1 beaten egg, and then powdered sugar. Chill and form into balls, press down with a fork on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º until nice brown.

PRESERVED CHILDREN
Two to three small dogs, 1/2 dozen children, one large field, some pebbles and a pinch of brook

Mix children and dogs together well. Put them on the field, stirring constantly.
Pour brook over pebbles. Sprinkle field with flowers. Spread over all a deep blue sky and bake in sun.

When brown, set away to play in bath tub.
