2½ c. sugar
1½ c. butter
2 eggs
4 c. flour
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt
1 tbsp. vanilla

Topping:
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
cinnamon & sugar
crushed black walnuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Cream butter and sugar together. Add 2 eggs, flour, baking soda, salt and vanilla. Beat until fluffy; add flour in needed. Dough should be soft but not sticky. Chill dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Roll out dough on lightly floured board to ½-inch thickness. Cut out shapes. Beat 1 egg and 2 tbsp. milk to brush on top of the dough. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar; add crushed black walnuts if desired. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool. Store in air tight container.
