Mix wafer crumbs, sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla and butter. Press into a 9" pie plate. Bake until set and barely browning, 10 minutes.
Slice 2 c strawberries. Combine with 2 Tbsp water in a medium sauce pan. Bring to boil on high heat, while mashing berries.
Cook two minutes. Push berries through sieve with a spoon. Discard solids. Measure juice and add water to measure 1 cup.
Combine sugar and cornstarch in saucepan. Gradually add strawberry and lemon juice.
Cook over medium heat until thickened. Boil 1 min or until translucent. Remove from heat and stir in remaining vanilla.
Place a third of berries in shell. Drizzle with a third of the sauce. Repeat layers, twice. Chill until set, about 2 hours.
