Ingredients:
Ingredients:
½ lb ground sausage (often pork)
2 c cooked broccoli florets
1 egg beaten
2 T. flour
¼ tsp baking powder
4 oz/1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
½ c. ricotta cheese
4 oz. mushrooms
¼ c. onion, chopped
8 oz package Crescent rolls
1 egg white, beaten
¼ tsp. caraway seeds or sesame seeds

Directions:
Directions:
Brown sausage and drain, set aside. Saute mushrooms and onions until tender, set aside. Cook broccoli and drain. Heat oven to 325 ºF. In large bowl, combine egg, flour and baking powder; beat well. Stir in Cheddar cheese, ricotta cheese, mushrooms, onion, sausage and broccoli. On large ungreased cookie sheet (preferably without lip), place parchment paper and then unroll Crescent roll dough into two long rectangles. Overlap long sides, firmly press perforations together and seal. Press or roll out to form about 14 x 10 min rectangle. Spread sausage mixture in center, leaving about 3 in on either side and down to short end. Make cuts 1 in apart on each side of rectangle just to edge of filling. To give braided appearance, fold strips of dough at an angel halfway across filling with edges of strips just slightly overlapping, alternating from side to side. Brush with egg white; sprinkle with caraway seed. Bake at 325 ºF for 25-35 min or until deep golden brown. Cool 5 min and cut into slices to serve.

Somehow this became the Christmas morning tradition at 6610 W 81 st ST. I have substituted other sausage types or other veggies over the years.
