1 Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake Mix
1 tub of chocolate frosting
1 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
optional: pecans, whole or chopped

Directions:
Step 1 Prep
- preheat oven to 350°F for metal and glass pans, 325°F for dark or coated pans
- grease sides and bottom of 3 cake pans with Pam baking spray

Step 2 Mix
- blend cake mix, water, oil and eggs in a large bowl at low speed until moistened (about 30 seconds)
- beat at medium speed for 2 minutes
- pour batter in pans and bake immediately

Step 3 Bake
- for two 8-inch pans, bake 26–31 min.
- for two 9-inch pans, bake 23–28 min
- cool cakes in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Remove cakes from pan and cool completely before frosting.
cake is done when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean

Step 4 Frost
- frost each layer thinly, including the top, finish up with frosting the sides
- decorate the top of cake with whole or chopped pecans if desired

- the recipe instructions are from the back of the Duncan Hines cake mix box.
- I remember Mama Hazel using one tub of chocolate frosting on her 3-layer chocolate cake. I don't know how she did it with just one tub of frosting!! I guess She had it down to a science!
