Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1 beaten egg
1-1/2 cup sifted flour
Chicken broth
Cream of chicken soup

Directions:
Directions:
Add salt and milk to beaten egg. Add this mixture to flour. Mix to make a soft dough. Use more flour or milk as necessary (should be biscuit dough consistency). Turn out on well-floured board, and roll to about 1/4" thick (the thinner the better). Cut into 1 to 1 1/2" strips or squares, and drop a few at a time into a pot of slow-boiling chicken broth mixed with cream of chicken soup. [If broth comes from boiling a chicken, leave skin on for a richer broth]. Keep broth boiling during entire cooking time, about 20 minutes or until dumplings are tender. [Shortcut: Use flour tortillas cut into strips.]

Personal Notes:
Mother said stretching each dumpling strip would make it thinner and tastier. Sometimes when visiting my cousin Patti, my great-aunt Effie McDonald Ingram would "stretch" and boil dumplings while preparing supper.
