2 cups sugar
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/4 tsp salt
2 T Karo syrup
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 T Butter
1 1/2 cups oats (either quick or old fashioned)
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, chocolate, salt, Karo, and milk in medium sized sauce pan. Cook over med. heat, stirring frequently. to 236º or until a soft ball forms when dropped in cold water. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla, butter, oats, coconut and nuts. Drop IMMEDIATELY by spoonfuls onto waxed paper.

These were one of the first things Mom taught me to make. They are really more of a candy. But still a little soft in the middle.

If Mom's recipes call for Oleo, just substitute butter.
