Applesauce Cookies Recipe

1/2 cup margarine
1 beaten egg
1 cup sugar
sift alternately with:
1 cup applesauce
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder

Carmelscotch Frosting
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
3 T shortening
2 T margarine
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup milk
1 1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar (powdered)

Mix ingredients together as directed above, add raisins and nuts. Spoon onto cookie sheets. Bake at 400 for 10 minutes. Frost if desired

Put brown sugar, shortening, margarine and salt in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until mixture begins to bubble, stirring constantly boil vigorously for 1 full minute. Remove from heat (cool) until lukewarm. Add powdered sugar all at once and beat until creamy. Frost or glaze cookies.

Note: If frosting becomes too thick, soften over hot water.
