Cream:
1/2 cup margarine
1 beaten egg
1 cup sugar
sift alternately with:
1 cup applesauce
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
Raisins
Nuts

Carmelscotch Frosting
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
3 T shortening
2 T margarine
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup milk
1 1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar (powdered)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix ingredients together as directed above, add raisins and nuts. Spoon onto cookie sheets. Bake at 400º for 10 minutes. Frost if desired

Frosting:
Put brown sugar, shortening, margarine and salt in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until mixture begins to bubble, stirring constantly boil vigorously for 1 full minute. Remove from heat (cool) until lukewarm. Add powdered sugar all at once and beat until creamy. Frost or glaze cookies.

Note: If frosting becomes too thick, soften over hot water.
