1 cup butter
1 pound sugar (about 2 cups (use light brown sugar)
Dash of salt
1 cup light corn syrup
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract

Directions:
Directions:
In a large three quart saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add sugar and salt and stir thoroughly. Stir in corn syrup and mix well. Gradually add milk stirring constantly. Cook, stirring constantly over medium heat until candy thermometer registers 245. I usually take it off heat around 243 to 244.
Remove pan from heat.
Pour into buttered pan or use parchment paper in a 9 x 13 baking dish.
Cool completely.
Cut into small squares and wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap.

Note: It is better to make the carmels on a sunny day. For some reason, they do not turn out on raining and miserable days!
