Ingredients:  
1 medium orange
Put juice in measuring cup and fill with boiling water. Grind 1 cup dates and rind from orange. Put juice over this to soften the mixture. Stir into above mixture:
2 tbsp. melted shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg beaten
Add:
2 cups flour
½ tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powser
¼ sp. salt
1 cup sugar
Stir in ½ cup chopped walnuts.

Put in loaf pan and bake one hour at 350.
