1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine
1 cup plus 3 T sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp almond extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup chopped green and red maraschino cherries

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. In large bowl of electric mixer, cream butter and 1 cup sugar. Beat in eggs and almond extract. Stir together flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder; add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Stir in cherries.

Shape into 3/4-inch balls. Roll in remaining 3 tablespoons sugar. Place 2 inches apart on baking sheet.

Bake at 350º for 8 to 10 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
