1-1/2 c. sliced fresh or frozen okra, thawed
3 Tbsp. buttermilk
2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. cornmeal
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/8 teaspoon pepper
Oil for deep frying

Directions:
- Pat okra dry with paper towels.
- Place buttermilk in a shallow bowl. In another shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, and seasonings.
- Dip okra in buttermilk, then roll in flour/cornmeal mixture.
- In cast iron skillet heat 1 inch oil to 375º. Fry okra, a few pieces at a time, for 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and season with additional salt and pepper if desired.
