1 1/3 cup shortening
4 eggs
4 cups flour
2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp nutmeg
16 oz chopped dates
1 cup sugar
1 cup light molasses
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs, molasses and buttermilk. (1 cup milk, combined with 1 T vinegar may be substituted.) Stir in flour, soda and spices. Fold in dates. Place in casserole with a tight cover. Put in fridge, bake as needed.

To bake: spoon dough into paper-lined muffin tins. Don't stir
Bake at 350º for 25 minutes.
