1 gallon cucumbers, cleaned and sliced
4 onions, sliced
5 cups sugar
5 cups apple cider vinegar
1½ teaspoons turmeric
½ teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons mustard seeds
2 teaspoons celery seeds
alum
½ cup salt
8 pint jars, new lids and rings, sterilized

Directions:
--Layer cucumbers and onions with salt and ice and leave to rest overnight. (Cooler works great for this step)

--Combine sugar, vinegar, turmeric, cloves,mustard seeds and celery seeds in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

--Add drained cucumbers to vinegar mixture, stir until mixed and barely warm

--Place a pea sized piece of alum in each jar

--Add cucumbers to each jar

--Divide liquid among jars

--clean jar top and seal with lids and rings

--Process 5 minutes in boiling water

--Remove from water and allow each jar to cool on a cloth before storing
