Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cake Recipe

1/2 c. liquid shortening, or oil
1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 t. ground cinnamon
2 T. unsweetened cocoa powder
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
2 c. applesauce
2 T. granulated sugar
1 c. chocolate chips
some chopped nuts (optional)

Combine all the ingredients and beat well. Put into a 9" x 13" pan. Sprinkle with the 2 T. sugar, 1 cup of chocolate chips, and nuts. Bake at 350 30-40 minutes, or till toothpick inserted comes out with only a few crumbs on it.
