1 lb. dates, cut into small pieces
1 tsp. soda
1 c. boiling water
1 c. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. butter
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. plain flour
1 c. chopped nuts
1 lb. orange slice candy, cut into small pieces

Directions:
Directions:
Cover dates with boiling water. Allow to stand several minutes until softened. Drain. Put soda into boiling water. Pour over dates. Let stand until cooled. Cream together the sugar and butter. Add eggs, dates (with liquid), flour, nuts and candy. Mix thoroughly. Bake in slow oven at 325 degrees for 1 hour or until done (Bundt pan). Our family likes this cake better than the traditional fruit cake.
