2 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup soft butter (2 sticks)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 - 12-ounce package of Toll House Semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375º.
In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt, set aside.
In a large bowl, combine butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract. Beat until creamy.
Beat in eggs, one at a time.
Gradually add flour mixture, mix well.
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts (if desired).
Drop by rounded tablespoons onto an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 9-11 minutes.
Remove from baking sheet to cooling rack.
