2 level teaspoons Crisco
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup sour milk

Mix all ingredients until thoroughly combined. Roll out dough, and deep fry in melted Crisco

Great-memeré always said that these should never be fried in anything but a good old-fashioned cast iron skillet.
