½ cup butter plus 2 Tbsp.
1½ cup sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. baking soda
1 Tbsp. vinegar
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk plus 2 Tbsp.
2¼ cups flour
1 tsp. vanilla
½ tsp. baking powder
Cooked icing:
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar, add eggs one at a time. Add coloring, cocoa and vanilla.
Beat well, add sifted flour, salt, baking powder, alternating with buttermilk. Put soda in vinegar and sprinkle over batter, fold in till well blended.
Spread in 2 or 3 round baking pans.
Bake @ 350º for 25-30 min.
Cool.
Cook the cornstarch and milk until thick. Cool.
Cream butter, till fluffy, add sugar, vanilla and cornstarch mixture. Beat well.
Spread over cake layers.
