5 cups self-rising flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in buttermilk.
2 pkgs. dry yeast dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water

Directions:

Bake 450º

Sift flour and sugar together; cut in the shortening. Add the yeast mixture, then buttermilk mixture. Stir well. Knead the dough on a floured surface then place in a large greased refrigerator bowl. Refrigerate overnight. Knead dough lightly; roll out and cut with a heart shaped cookie cutter. Place on greased cooking sheet, brush with melted butter and freeze until ready to use. Once frozen you can move to a zip lock bag. When ready to bake place on baking sheet and place in a COLD oven. Bake until tops are browned.
