BEAT UNTIL SMOOTH:
2 pkg. yeast, softened in water
2 1/2 c. water, warm
2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. sugar
2 T. oil
3 c. flour, sifted
ADD:
3 1/2 c. sifted flour

Directions:
Knead on lightly floured board until smooth. Place in greased bowl. Grease top of dough. Cover and let rise until double. Cut in loaves; roll oblong on floured board. shape loaves, tapering ends. Place sealed edges down on baking sheets. Brush with cold water. Let rise (uncovered) until light. Brush again with cold water. Make diagonal slashes across top, 2-inches apart. bake at 375º, with pan of water on bottom of oven, 20 minutes. remove pan of water; bake an additional 10 minutes.
