5 pkgs dried beans, lima, pinto, kidney, split peas black beans
3 beef boullon cubes
3 T dried chives
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp pepper
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 quarts water
1 can stewed tomatoes

COMBINE BEANS; DIVIDE INTO FOUR EQUAL BATCHES, ABOUT 3 3/4 CUPS EACH. TO MAKE ONE BATCH OF SOUP: WASH ONE BATCH OF THE BEANS, PLACE IN LARGE KETTLE; ADD ENOUGH WATER TO COVER. BRING TO BOIL; COOK FOR 3-4 MINUTES/ REMOVE FROM HEAT AND COVER AND LET STAND FOR 1 HOUR. TIE SPICES IN CHEESECLOTH BAG; DRAIN AND RINSE BEANS. RETURN TO KETTLE; ADD SPICES AND WATER. BRING TO BOIL. REDUCE HEAT; COVER AND SIMMER FOR 1 1/2 HOURS OR UNTIL BEANS ARE TENDER. STIRRING OCCASIONALLY. REMOVE SPICES AND ADD TOMATOES AND HEAT THEN SERVE.
