Ingredients:
Tomato and Apple Chow
6 lbs green tomatoes
6 lbs apples
3.5 cups white vinegar (or to almost cover)
3 lbs sugar
About half a box of pickling spice (3 oz.)
2 sticks of cinnamon or a bit of ground

Directions:
Directions:
Grind tomatoes in coarsest grinder, sprinkle with salt (about a half cup) and let stand overnight.
In morning, quarter and peel apples and grind in medium grinder.
Add vinegar to the drained tomatoes and simmer an hour before adding the apples and when it’s all simmering, add the sugar being careful it doesn’t stick at bottom of pan and burn.
Cook slowly until tender but not too long or it will darken.
One or two chopped sweet red peppers added to the tomatoes makes a prettier pickle.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is Auntie Blanche's recipe. She was Grammy Fillmore's sister and lived in Lewisville, NB, close to Moncton. Blanche and Grammy were very close...they had married brothers...Uncle John and Grampy. She was a wonderful cook and a real "homey" woman.
