Cornbread Recipe

2 c Martha white self rising corn meal
1/4 c melted shortening
1 1/2 c buttermilk or 1 1/4 whole milk
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees

Heat cast iron skillet that has been greased. Mix all ingredients, do not over beat. Pour into heated skillet and bake 15 to 20 minutes.

(Note: add shortening plus about 1 tsp to pan then pour the hot shortening into the cornbread mix before adding to heated pan.)
