2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups raisins
1 1/2 cups dates
5 T shortening
2 cups boiling water
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup cherries and pineapple
1 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
In a large saucepan add the sugar, raisins, dates, shortening to the 2 cups boiling water and boil gently for 20 minutes. Let cool. Once fully cooled add the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt and mix thoroughly. Fold in the cherries, pineapple and nuts and pour the batter into 2 loaf pans greased and lined with paper. Bake for 1 1/2 hour at 325º.
