1 1/2 tsp olive oil
1/2 sweet onion - diced
1 1/2 cloves garlic - minced
3/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp chili powder *
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 cup bottled salsa verde - good quality
1 lb ground turkey
corn tortillas
cilantro
bagged cole slaw
fresh limes

Directions:
In skillet - heat olive oil. Add onion and cook until just soft, then add the garlic and cook until the garlic is incorporated. Add the spices. Mix well.

Add the turkey - break it up, and cook until done.

When cooked, add the salsa, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Serve on warm corn tortillas, top with more salsa, cilantro, chopped onions, slaw and a squeeze of lime.

I grew up having tacos almost every Friday - which was unusual 50 years ago when the Midwest didn't really know what a taco was. So my mom made them from beef, with whatever spices she had and those hard shell tortillas. But to me a real taco is made with a fresh corn tortilla. Not Flour. Put anything in a corn tortilla and I'm happy. This recipe is so quick and guilt-free that it's tough not to like. Leftovers are great in a salad, as nachos or a quesadilla, etc.

*I use green chili powder from the Spice House in MKE and it works great in these. Any chili powder will do though.
