Cookies:
2 cups shortening or margarine
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
6 cups sifted flour
1 cup white sugar
4 slightly beaten eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 T milk

Filling:
2 cups raisins
1 cup water
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup nuts
2 T flour

Cookies:
Mix and form into two rolls. Make one a little larger for the top. Chill overnight or freeze and then dice thin. Use one slice on a cookie sheet for the bottom and another slice for the top. Bake in a moderate oven for 12-15 minutes.

Filling:
Cook over low heat until thick. Put a small amount of filling on cookie bottom, and cover with the top slice of dough.
(I like to make 1 1/2 recipes of filling because my family likes more filling in the cookies. (Marg Farrer)
