Yellow Layer Cake

2½ c flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1⅔ c sugar
⅔ c shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1⅓ c milk

Directions:
Directions:
Measure flour (without sifting) onto square of waxed paper. Add baking powder and salt. stir well to blend. Cream sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla until light. Add blended dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Spread batter evenly in two greased and lightly floured 9" round pans. Bake at 350ºF for 35-40 min. Cool 10 min. before turning out on wire rack.
 

Decorating Butterfly Cake

Light pink frosting
Pink gumdrops
White life savers
Pink and licorice candies
Licorice whips

Directions:
Directions:
Fill layer cake with some of the frosting. Cut layer cake in half and place rounded edges together to form butterfly shape. Cover top and sides of cake with frosting. Using rosette tip and cake decorator tube or bag, flute around top outer edge of cake; flute around base of cake. Decorate cake using candies and licorice whips. Fasten licorice whip antennae with tooth picks.

I don't remember Mom making this specific cake, but I remember her making other decorated cakes. This recipe was in her little green binder and is one she might have done, so I have included it.
