1 cup raisins or dates
1¼ cup water
½ cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
½ t. ground cloves
½ t. salt
1 egg - slightly beaten
½ cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
In a heavy saucepan cook raisins or dates in water and butter for 10 minutes. All at once time, add sugar, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Mix well, then add egg and nuts. Spread on prepared jelly roll pan and bake at 350º for 20 minutes. Ice while hot.

¼ cup butter - melt to golden brown
2 cup powdered sugar
2 T. cream
1½ t. vanilla
2 T. hot water
Extra powdered sugar

Combine and ice spice bars right out of the oven. After if cools, sprinkle with extra powdered sugar on top.
