¾ C shortening (½ butter, ½ margarine)
1 C brown sugar, packed
1 egg
4 T molasses (1/4 C)
¼ tsp salt
2¼ C all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground cloves
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Cream shortening. Add sugar. Blend eggs and molasses. Add flour, salt, baking soda and spices. Stir well. Chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Shape into ½" balls. Place balls on an ungreased cookie sheet. Press with sugared fork and bake for 8-10 minutes, until light brown. Remove from oven, leave on cookie sheet for at least 5 minutes, then place on a wire cooling rack.
