8 c. water
5 T. pickling salt
1 c vinegar
Alum - about the size of a pea
1 large sprig fresh dill
Cucumbers - 3-4 inches long and 1 to 1½ inches thick

Directions:
Directions:
1. Heat water, salt, and vinegar. Add alum.
2. Put the cucumbers into a clear glass gallon jar.
3. Add large sprig of dill.
4. Pour hot solution over pickles.
5. Fill jar to top, making sure all pickles are covered with solution.
6. Put on lid.
7. Place in direct sunlight, outside from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
8. Ready to eat the next day.
