2 cups pea dhal
1 large onion (chopped into fine cubes)
6-10 green chillies (finely chopped)
1 tablespoon dried crushed red chillies
1 ˝ teaspoons jeera (roasted and roughly ground)
1 ˝ teaspoons soomph (roasted and roughly ground)
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons gram flour
1 bunch dhunia (finely chopped)
1 bunch shallot (finely chopped)
1 banana
1 tablespoon ginger/garlic
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

1 Soak pea dhal in water for about 3 to 4 hours or overnight Rinse and Drain well and blend in food processor. Add ginger/garlic, and blend to a rough paste. DO NOT ADD WATER when grinding!

2 Mix onion, green chillies, dhunia, shallot, crushed red chillies, jeera, soomph, baking powder, gram flour and salt in a bowl. Add ground dhal and mashed banana and mix well.

3 Heat oil in a deep pan.
Rub a little oil on the palm of your hand to keep it from sticking.
Take golf ball sized scoops of the ground dhal mixture, flatten in the palm of your hand, make a small indentation with your finger in the centre, and deep fry till golden brown and crisp.

4 Serve plain or with chutneys like mint chutney
