6 - 8 apples
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. nutmeg
1/4 c. butter

Dough:
2 c. flour
2 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
1/2 c. milk
3/4 c. shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Bring all ingredients except apples, to boil and set aside until ready to pour over dumplings.

Pare and core apples. Cut in half.

Dough:
Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in shortening. Add milk all at once and stir. Roll in 1/4" of lightly floured board. Cut in 4 or 5 inch squares. Arrange apples on square, sprinkle with 1 t. sugar, add cinnamon, nutmeg, fold corners and pinch together. Place in greased baking deep dish. Pour hot syrup over dumplings.
Bake 350º - 45 minutes.
