1# dried navy beans
3/4# ham, cubed
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small bay leaf
1 c. potatoes, cubed
1 c. onion, chopped
1/2 c. celery, sliced
1 c. carrots, sliced

Directions:
Directions:
Wash beans. Place in large saucepan with about 2 1/2 qt. water. Bring to boil, simmer about 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let stand at least 1 hr. Add ham, bay leaf and garlic to beans. Simmer covered for about 2 hours. Add vegetables, season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and continue to simmer for another hour or until all vegetables are tender. Remove bay leaf and with serve with hot cornbread sticks.
