1/2 gallon (8 cups) apple cider
16 whole cloves
2 Granny Smith apples, quartered
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
2 lemons, juiced, halves reserved
Fall Spice Mix, recipe follows
2 cups bourbon, optional

Fall Spice Mix:
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions:
Directions:
Pour the apple cider into a slow cooker. Press 2 cloves into each apple quarter. Add the apples, maple syrup, lemon juice and lemon halves and the Fall Spice Mix. Stir to combine. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours.

Discard the apples and lemons. Stir in the bourbon if using. Serve warm, in mugs.

Fall Spice Mix:
Whisk together the cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, nutmeg and salt in a small bowl. The mixture will keep in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
