1 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 well-beaten eggs
2 cups plus 4 T. sifted All-Purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped nuts
12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

Heat oven to 375º.
Cream shortening, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Fold in the eggs, beat entire mixture. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips. Mix thoroughly. Drop small spoonfuls of dough onto greased baking sheet. Bake for about 10 minutes.

This was the chocolate chip recipe Cindy, Mike and Gina grew up on. Cindy remembers Grandma B having warm cookies, fresh from the oven, waiting for them when they would come home from grade school. Likewise, Cindy baked these after-school treats for Kyle and AJ when they were kids.
